Hi Grandpa
How's the view from up there?
It's been pretty rainy and cold down here since your passing last Thursday. The past couple of days, though, the sun decided to brace us with it's presence, but I bet you had something to do with that, huh?
It's been a hard week without you. The holidays just weren't the same. We missed seeing your handsome smile as you hold grandma's hand. We kept looking to see if you're sitting on your roll aid walker watching Suelta la Sopa, or maybe outside on the rocker breathing the fresh air.
But of course you're not.
I know you're walking around on those fluffy white clouds looking down on all of us right now. There are a lot of tears Grandpa, and a hole in our hearts that is more than overwhelming. But through the tears and the heartache, we remember that you're not truly gone. We have the best guardian angel looking over us now.
I'm sorry I never said it sooner Grandpa, but thank you for all that you've done for our family. You were our rock, our strongest pillar that made this family stand tall above the rest. You were our biggest supporter and number one cheerleader. Whether it be a graduation, a birthday or a wedding, you were constantly there sitting front row, smiling as you always do.
Thank you for loving Grandma with all your heart. For 62 years, your love spread like wildfire and radiated to everyone you met. Wherever grandma was there you were, side by side, hand in hand as only two true soulmates would be. You and her built this family, and I think it’s blatantly obvious that your greatest success is loving each other and growing with each other to form this amazing family. And that is a true testament to the man that you were.
Thank you for raising your children, my aunts and uncles, to be the strongest people I know. It's hard to see them hurt because they're strong just like you. But of course they are because you and Grandma raised them.
Thank you for giving me my dad, and for always encouraging him to be the best, because he truly is the best. I see so much of you in him. Not just with the lack of hair on your heads (which you rocked by the way) but in your demeanor, personality and work ethic. He looked up to you in so many ways, and the love that he had for you is immeasurable.
You left a legacy here on Earth Grandpa, and I think we strive every day to continue to make you proud. Life isn't measured in the years that you lived, but in the lives you've touched around you. And with that, you've lived much more than a lifetime.
The sun brings us warmth today, and I know that's you telling us to leave the hurt behind. That although are hearts are broken, a broken heart is a heart that’s been deeply loved. You’re at home now, and the light that's shining on us is you looking down and saying it's going to be okay.
