As the first game of the season approaches for my former team, I can't help but feel a mixture of emotions: I'm excited to see my old teammates play the sport we love. I'm anxious to see them go for that #4peat. I'm happy to see the team flourish into the top notch program it can be. I'm sad since I can't join them in the locker room for pregame or warm up with them opposite the opposing team while our fans cheer us on. Lastly, I'm scared because I don't know life without soccer, and who isn't scared of the unknown?
It's wonderful to have something that can generate so many different feelings, and soccer sure has had it's fair share of ups and downs for me. In the end, I don't think I've ever loved anything more than this beautiful sport. I would escape the drama and any troubles by dribbling the ball, juggling haphazardly, or running after the shanked shot.

So it's difficult for me to watch my friends and former teammates continue on competing as I sit and watch them as an old has been. I believe it's okay to be sad about the past and everything you leave behind. It's human nature after all, and it's always going to be a part of us. I loved playing soccer, and it's hard to vision my life without it. But I also believe that what lies ahead, as scary as it many look from our tunnel vision eyes, holds so much promise if we choose to embrace it. Life is what we make it, and it will surely go on before our eyes. Attitude is everything, and if you truly believe the future holds far better things than anything we leave behind, then you can make it so.
I have so much more to look forward to post college soccer then I may understand or want to accept at the moment. That's quite alright. For now, I'm going to grab a tub of ice cream (half baked of course), go through old soccer photos from years past, cry a mixture of happy and sad tears, and smile as I watch the SFA vs Oregon game. The smile will come about almost subconsciously as my mind trys to wrap it's own thoughts around the match and all the wonderful adventures I'll come across in the years to come.
Now go kick some Oregon butt, Lady Jacks! Thanks and Axe'em.
